If, at first glance, the work has a disorganised and diffuse effect, closer inspection reveals its divisions, recurring structures and strict contours. The decisions taken during the painting process are often spontaneous and open, although the tension-rich picture compositions arise from ordered, procedural and serial work-flows. The works created in 2016 are concerned with a “back there” and an “in-between”; they neither illustrate nor display anything, and they avoid any approach to a form of content. They are dense, powerful images from monochrome, intensive colours, which avoid any picturesque impression and display the desire for a purely aesthetic quality.
